GENERAL ASSEMBLY
As the 21st century propels humanity to a new level, welfare and the healthcare of citizens in developing and developed countries are more important than ever. The COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated that the battle between humanity and disease is far from over. Today, the United Nations Commision on Science and Technology for Development will continue that debate while creating policies to fight the diseases and medicinal practices that bring perils to the modern world.
First, delegates will explore the issue of global medicine accessibility to treatable diseases. Medical and pharmaceutical advancements are often not delivered to impoverished areas around the globe. Many treatable diseases remain prevalent in areas with a lack of access to affordable medicine, clean water, and healthcare. Delegates will then tackle solutions to agricultural antibiotic resistance. Antibiotic resistance in livestock presents a constant threat to global food sources and impacts impoverished communities on a global scale. Delegates will debate measures to combat antibiotic resistance in agricultural practices to stabilize consistent food production and global food trade.

Eric Han (he/him) is a sophomore at UF studying criminology on the pre-law path. He is originally from Lexington, Massachusetts before he moved to Orlando, Florida last year! After chairing the Lord of the Flies crisis committee at SunMUN II, Eric takes it upon himself to co-chair his first GA committee along with Arielle! Eric also serves as the USG of Logistics for UF’s GatorMUN XXII. Outside of MUN, he is also involved in the Florida IP Alliance and the Florida Undergraduate Law Review, in which he wrote a research paper that inspired his topic in this committee. Eric also sings and does art in his free time, or whatever time is left after he yaps with his friends all day long. He is a master (struggling) juggler with class obligations, MUN, and searching for fun things to do. Eric can’t wait to see everyone at SunMUN III!
Meet the Directors
Arielle Watts (she/her) is a junior at the University of Florida’s Nursing Program. She has been doing MUN since her sophomore year at Cypress Lake High School. This is her second year in UFMUN and she has mostly done General Assembly for her entire MUN career. She was a director in the WHO committee at the previous iteration of SUNMUN.
In addition to Model United Nations, she loves theatre, softball, butterfly conservation, and crocheting. She is a Certified Nursing Assistant and is very passionate about medicine, particularly in the labor and delivery specialty. She is on the executive board for Nurses Leading Change and devotes her remaining free time to organizing information sessions about health practices. In addition, she is very passionate about the prevention of antibiotic resistance, specifically in the agricultural sector. She is interested to see what innovative ideas you come up with in this committee.
