Top o’ the mornin! It’s 1974, England, and Top of the Pops is THE show to watch. Every week, the BBC (through Pops) would host the most popular musicians of the time and give them a platform to play their biggest hits. The show was a success from its genesis and to its end in 2006. 1974 was also the year that the BBC adopted a show called "Football Focus," an additional segment of the Grandstand program. Grandstand, which aired football matches and analyses, had an established five hours of air time each Saturday and was very popular among viewers. Both programmes created great revenue for the company and co-existed for years, but in this committee, BBC producers plan to cut Pops before Focus is launched. The intent is to feed into Britain's fanatic football culture, or, in other words, put all their eggs in one basket. Delegates are to be the rock 'n roll artists that dominated the air waves, putting them in the shoes of the most popular figures at the time and making them contend with this changing environment. It will be up to the musicians to save the show, and if not, navigate life post-Pops!

About the Director
Cristina Barrios (she/her) is a third year majoring in history and classical studies. For SunMUN V, she is directing “Stop, Drop, and Rock ‘n Roll: The Defunding of Top of the Pops”! She enjoys traveling for UF Model UN, and is honored to be one of the USG of Advisor Relations for our high school conference, GatorMUN, and the Secretary General for our online training conference, SwampMUN! As a resident from Lakeland, FL, she can often be found at a beach or a spring. When she’s not at one of her three jobs (or doing MUN!), she likes to spend time outside with her friends, as well as play the violin, read, and care for the community cats on campus. Cristina grew up on classic rock, and is very passionate about learning the stories and musicality behind the songs. Her favorite artists include Queen, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, David Bowie, and Led Zeppelin! She is so excited to share her love of music with you, and hopes that you come ready to rock in sunny Orlando!
